Convention on migrant wild species – CMS

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals was established in 1983 (also known as CMS or Bonn Convention after the German city where the Convention was signed) to conserve all migratory terrestrial, aquatic and avian species in the territories of the countries that are parties to the Convention. This intergovernmental treaty was signed under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to provide a global platform for the conservation of wild animals, plants and their habitats on a global scale. Since the Convention entered into force, the number of signatories has increased to 133 countries from Africa, Central and South America, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

Vietnam is considering and assessing the feasibility of joining this Convention to support the conservation of migratory species in Vietnam.
