Phia Oac – Phia Den National Park was established in January 2018 on the basis of upgrading from the Conservation Area level. The park has a total natural area of over 10,000 hectares, including over 8,000 hectares of natural forest, spread across the communes of Thanh Cong, Quang Thanh, Phan Thanh, Hung Dao and Tinh Tuc town of Nguyen Binh district; divided into 3 main sub-zones: strictly protected sub-zone; ecological restoration sub-zone; administrative service sub-zone.
The park has 1,287 species belonging to 786 genera in 202 plant families of 6 plant phyla, including many rare plant species listed in the Vietnam Red Book. There are 496 species of vertebrates and thousands of species of invertebrates, insects, etc. There are 58 rare animal species, including 30 mammal species listed in the Vietnam Red Book; 12 species of reptiles, of which 3 are critically endangered; 3 species of frogs, of which 2 are critically endangered. This is an extremely rare resource, these animal genetic resources have high economic and conservation value.
Phia Oac – Phia Den mountain forest is so beautiful that it captivates anyone who comes here for the first time. On clear, sunny days, standing on the top of Phia Oac mountain, you can look far away and observe the majestic mountain scenery. With a cool climate, low average temperature, and high humidity, this place is a paradise for flowers. Ordinary flowers grown in Phia Den will have a different quality than those grown elsewhere because of their large flowers, bright colors, and strong fragrance.
In addition, there are many wild and enchanting flowers growing naturally in the forest, especially rhododendrons and wild orchids that bloom brilliantly in spring. In winter, on cold days, visitors will enjoy an impressive landscape like in Europe when Phia Oac mountain peak is covered in a white layer of ice.
It can be said that Phia Oac – Phia Den is like a magical and majestic natural picture, containing many wonders of nature. The wildness and integrity of the mountains and forests here has created a special interest that attracts scientists and domestic and foreign tourists to continue to passionately learn and explore this place. Phia Oac – Phia Den National Park is considered by many people as the “precious gem” of Cao Bang Non Nuoc Geopark.
