Con Dao – Where Nature and History Meet

Con Dao has long been likened to a green gem in the East Sea, possessing both the pristine beauty of nature and the tragic memories of history. Upon arriving, visitors can immediately feel the difference: the fresh air, the slow pace of life, and the harmonious blend of ancient forests, the sea, and long stretches of fine white sand beaches.

Ecotourism in Con Dao isincreasingly developing, contributing to making it a valuable green highlight on the tourism map of Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

In 1993, Con Dao National Park was established with nearly 20,000 hectares, of which more than 14,000 hectares are sea. Forest cover exceeding 92% not only reflects the rich biodiversity but also affirms the persistent conservation efforts. As a result, the ecosystem here has become an ideal destination for ecotourism, from trekking through primeval forests to diving to admire vibrant coral reefs beneath the clear blue waters. Con Dao is also famous as the “roof” of many rare species such as black squirrels, monitor lizards, and especially sea turtles – a species that has been associated with the archipelago for hundreds of years. During each breeding season, the sight of mother turtles coming ashore to lay eggs and baby turtles crawling towards the ocean becomes a sacred moment, deeply moving for visitors.

Alongside its natural beauty, Con Dao is also a land of history. The prison complex, Hang Duong Cemetery, and the tomb of the heroine Vo Thi Sau are places that evoke memories of the nation’s painful yet heroic past. The combination of ecological and cultural-historical values gives Con Dao a special appeal. The development orientation for tourism in Con Dao until 2030, with a vision to 2050, is based on the principle of conservation. Activities such as coral reef restoration, sea turtle rescue, and the application of technology in forest and marine management are being promoted. Along with that, tourism will be developed in a high-quality, sustainable direction, closely linked to the community.

Instead of seeking to be the most popular tourist destination, Con Dao aims to be the most meaningful place. Every trip here is not just a tourist trip, but also a participation in preserving nature and cherishing history.
