Greening Xuan Lien National Park with 2,000 Native Trees

Gaia Nature Conservation Center, in collaboration with Lotte Department Store and Lotte Mall West Lake Hanoi, planted 2,000 native trees in Xuan Lien National Park. This activity is part of the “Less is Green” campaign, with the message of turning small actions into practical contributions to nature. Accordingly, for every 10 paper bags refused by customers, one tree will be planted in the protected forest.

Xuan Lien was recognized as a national park at the beginning of 2025. It is one of the most important protected forests in the North Central region, home to over 1,000 plant species and nearly 400 animal species, including many rare species such as the gray langur, slow loris, and peacock pheasant. Besides its biodiversity value, Xuan Lien also plays a role in protecting the water source of the Cua Dat hydroelectric reservoir, contributing to irrigation regulation and ensuring ecological security for the Chu River basin.

Representative of Gaia, Ms. Do Thi Thanh Huyen, stated that the most valuable aspect of the campaign is the direct connection between sustainable consumption behavior and concrete conservation actions. The planted trees will be monitored and cared for for four years to ensure a high survival rate, truly becoming a sustainable “green shield” for the headwater forest. A representative from Lotte Department Store emphasized that every consumer choice has the power to create change. Customers’ refusal of paper bags is proof that small actions can contribute to forest restoration, environmental protection, and building a green future for future generations.

Alongside the reforestation efforts, Lotte and Lotte Mall West Lake also collaborated with the Ban Lua Forest Ranger Station to donate 1 ton of rice and essential supplies to people severely affected by Typhoon Wipha. This support demonstrates both a spirit of sharing and emphasizes the connection between forests, the environment, and community life. The campaign in Xuan Lien is considered a prime example of combining social responsibility and nature conservation, thereby affirming the sustainable direction of the enterprise in responding to climate change and building a green future.
