On September 7, 2017, at Phuoc Ninh commune, Nong Son district, Quang Nam province, the People’s Committee of Quang Nam province, the General Department of Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) in coordination with the United States Agency for International Development announced the Decision to establish an Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area in Quang Nam.

The Quang Nam Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area covers an area of ​​nearly 19,000 hectares, located in Que Lam and Phuoc Ninh communes of Nong Son district. The conservation area is located in the area of ​​the Green Truong Son project in Quang Nam province funded by the United States Agency for International Development. Therefore, the investment and support of the project will contribute additional resources to the conservation area to more effectively implement elephant species and habitat conservation activities as well as support the development of community livelihoods, contributing to ecological balance, biodiversity, serving the socio-economic development in the area.
