On March 2, 2020, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People’s Committee Tran Anh Thu signed Decision No. 418/QD-UBND approving the establishment of Tan Tuyen Melaleuca Forest Landscape Protection Area. The protection area has an area of 256.39 hectares, located in Tan Tuyen commune (Tri Ton), bordering Tan An and Tan Duc hamlets and canal No. 10 to the East; bordering sub-area 30C (Tan Duc hamlet); bordering canal No. 4 to the South; bordering Provincial Road 943 and Hue Duc canal to the North.
This is a special-use forest of the province with the purpose of protecting the natural landscape of cajuput forests and seasonal flooded grasslands typical of the Long Xuyen Quadrangle. At the same time, preserving natural ecosystems and biodiversity to serve the development of tourism services, contributing to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in response to climate change.
An Giang cajuput forest in general and Tan Tuyen forest in particular have great potential for ecotourism development. The most important thing is the extremely rich flora and fauna here. People often mention famous An Giang ecotourism areas such as Acacia Thien Tue forest, Ba cliff at Cam mountain, Acacia O Tuk Xa forest at Chi Lang, Soai So lake mango forest in Tri Ton district, ancient Thien Tue forest at Co To mountain located in Tri Ton and now Tan Tuyen cajuput forest in An Giang.
This place not only has green cajuput forests covering a large area but also has a dominant algae industry with many different species, including: green algae, siliceous algae, blue-green algae, golden algae, eye algae, golden algae and diatoms. Among them, there are many species that are good food for fish and shrimp in the cajuput forest.
