In 2013, Bach Long Vi Marine Reserve – the first national marine reserve established by the Prime Minister – affirmed the position and value of the island outpost of the Fatherland. To create a solid foundation for the construction and development of Bach Long Vi Marine Reserve, it is necessary to have “leverage” policies to honor the titles of nature, culture, tourism as well as the economic and political values ​​of this pearl island.

Bach Long Vy Island is located in the middle of the Gulf of Tonkin and about 135km from Hai Phong port. In the system of coastal islands in Vietnam, this is one of the three most distant islands, after Hon Hai Island in the Phu Quy archipelago and Tho Chu Island.

The results of the investigation and research of scientists from the Institute of Marine Resources and Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that the Bach Long Vy island area has rich and diverse marine biological resources, including about 1,500 species including marine organisms, terrestrial plants, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish species. In particular, this is also the sea area with the best coral reefs in the North with 94 species discovered and more than 80 species residing in the Northeast of the island.

Not only that, another best, Bach Long Vy is also one of the 8 fishing grounds with large fish reserves in the Gulf of Tonkin with a reserve of 78,000 tons and an exploitation capacity of 38,000 tons/year. Domestic and foreign tourists have enjoyed seafood specialties such as grouper, abalone, sea cucumber, snails, squid… caught and farmed on this island that cannot be mixed with any other sea area.
