Kim Hy Nature Reserve was established under Decision 1804/QD-UB, dated September 1, 2003 of the People’s Committee of Bac Kan province. The Reserve has a total area of 15,416 hectares. By 2007, according to Decision No. 757/2007/QD-UBND, dated May 21, 2007 of the People’s Committee of Bac Kan province, on approving the results of reviewing and re-planning 3 types of forests in Bac Kan province, the core area of the Reserve is 14,772 hectares and the buffer zone has an area of 18,931 hectares in 7 communes of Kim Hy, Luong Thuong, Lang San, An Tinh, Con Minh, Na Ri district and Cao Son, Vu Muon communes, Bach Thong district. Kim Hy Nature Reserve is a place to preserve very rich and diverse natural and human resources.
In particular, the forest ecosystems on limestone mountains with many rare plant species such as: Keteleeria davidiana, Pseudotsuga sinensis, … and rare and endemic animals including: White-cheeked langur (Trachypithecus francoisi), Musk deer (Moschus berezovski), Three-striped box turtle (Cuora cyclornata) are species currently at risk of extinction globally. In particular, coming to Kim Hy Nature Reserve, you will witness the diversity of bat species, including some rare species in the world distributed in Vietnam, including the tube-nosed bat Harpiocephalus harpia; Yellow-spotted bat Myotis formosus. In addition, this place also preserves human values: archaeological relics, historical and cultural relics and cultural identity of the people in the region.
