Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve is located in Son Lang Commune, K’Bang District, with an area of nearly 15,500 hectares. The area has a transitional ecosystem between the eastern and western regions of the Truong Son mountain range, so the flora is rich, there are many beautiful waterfalls, and it is the source of the Con River, which attracts tourists.
Biodiversity
Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve (KBTTN) with nearly 15,500 hectares of special-use forest, according to research by domestic and foreign scientists published at conferences on nature conservation, this place also meets all the criteria of a natural, geological and environmental heritage. The evidence is that this place also has ancient rock layers dating from 1.4 to 2.5 billion years old, plus an extremely rich ecosystem with endemic flora and fauna. According to statistics, Kon Chu Rang KBTTN has 546 species of higher plants, of which 18 species are listed in the Vietnam Red Book and 7 species are listed in the World Red Book. Regarding the fauna, there are 392 species, many of which are listed in the Red Book such as the red-cheeked gibbon, the gray-shanked douc langur, the Truong Son muntjac… which are classified as A in terms of international importance for biodiversity. Mr. Trinh Viet Ty, Director of Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve Management Board, said: “Researchers as well as UNESCO delegations conducted preliminary surveys but initially confirmed that Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve is of international stature in terms of biodiversity. In 2017, we discovered the number of higher plant species, including rare and endemic species, up to 833 species”. According to the results of the review of the national special-use forest planning for the period 2001 – 2010 by the Forest Planning and Investigation Institute, Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve has 9 narrow endemic plant species of Vietnam, including: Thich qua do, Du moc, Song bot, Hoa khe, Trac, Xoay, Giổi xanh and 2 types of orchids found only in this area, Long Hiep and Hoang thao vat do…
Along with the diversity of tropical ecosystems, Kon Chu Rang is also generously endowed by nature with many majestic landscapes. The waterfall system here is ranked among the best in the country, including 12 waterfalls with a height of 10m or more. With the potential and advantages of landscape and ecosystem, Kon Chu Rang has potential for tourism, especially eco-tourism. This will also be an ideal place for scientific research, environmental education, contributing to sustainable socio-economic development in the buffer zone.
With nearly 99% forest coverage, Kon Chu Rang is considered to be of international stature in terms of biodiversity.
Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve is an ideal destination, attracting domestic and foreign tourists to visit, relax, do scientific research, and receive environmental education.
