Than Sa – Phuong Hoang Nature Reserve, Thai Nguyen

Than Sa – Phuong Hoang Nature Reserve is established within the scope of 06 communes and 01 town of Vo Nhai district including: Sang Moc, Nghinh Tuong, Vu Chan, Thuong Nung, Than Sa, Phu Thuong communes and Dinh Ca town. With a total natural area of ​​48,913.66 ha. The land planned for special-use forests is 14,477.37 ha (According to Decision No. 93/QD-UBND, dated January 13, 2011 of Thai Nguyen Provincial People’s Committee).

– Geographical location:

40km northeast of Thai Nguyen city with geographical coordinates:

+ From 105o51’05” to 106o08’38” East longitude.

+ From 21o45’12” to 21o56’30” North Latitude

– Boundary:

+ East: Bordering Bac Son district, Lang Son province

+ North: Bordering Na Ri district, Bac Kan province

+ West: Bordering Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen province

+ South: Bordering the remaining communes of Vo Nhai district, Thai Nguyen province.

Than Sa – Phuong Hoang Nature Reserve has a high level of biodiversity with a concentrated limestone mountain system, where there are many rare species of forest animals and plants:

– Forest flora: There are 1096 species, of which 319 are timber species; 574 are medicinal plants; 84 are ornamental plants…etc.

– Forest fauna: There are 259 species, including 56 mammal species (a herd of 7 Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys was recently discovered in June 2010); 117 bird species; 28 reptile species, in the Reserve there are 15 species in group IB and 19 species in group IIB.
