Lam Dong will establish 3 more biodiversity conservation areas

According to the action plan to implement the National Strategy on Biodiversity to 2030, with a vision to 2050, Lam Dong province plans to build three provincial-level species/habitat conservation areas.

These are locally managed biodiversity conservation areas, including: Elephant Mountain Conservation Area to conserve red pine species in Duc Trong and Lam Ha districts; Phat Chi Conservation Area to preserve Da Lat tea mi and ginseng species in Da Lat City area; Madaguoi conservation area to conserve species: silver tea tree, yellow rose, wild cinnamon in Da Huoai district.

Accordingly, in terms of management, Nui Voi red pine conservation area, Lam Dong province is expected to be assigned to the Management Board of Tuyen Lam Lake Tourist Area to manage; Phat Chi species/habitat conservation area is expected to be managed by Lam Vien Forest Management Board; The Madaguoi species/habitat conservation area is expected to be managed by the Madaguoi Tourism Area Management Board.

The 3 assigned management units are responsible for performing functions and tasks according to State regulations on management of special-use forests and conservation zones.

It is known that Lam Dong province has a roadmap to establish 3 conservation areas. The Elephant Mountain Conservation Area has now been allocated funds to promote detailed investigation, leading to its establishment in the near future.

Currently, Lam Dong province has 6 active biodiversity conservation areas. Among them, the largest area is the Lang Biang Biosphere Reserve. This entire area has a total area of ​​275,439 hectares, of which the core area is 34,943 hectares; buffer zone 72,232 hectares and transition zone 168,264 hectares. In the core zone of this Biosphere Reserve there is Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park. In 2015, the Lang Biang plateau area and the surrounding area, the Lang Biang World Biosphere Reserve, were recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.

According to a report by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Lam Dong province, recently, plants in the province have a very large diversity of species with about 3,526 species; As for animals in the province, the survey showed that there are 86 species of mammals, 346 species of birds, 64 species of reptiles, 36 species of amphibians, 130 species of fish and 419 species of butterflies; Many of which are priority conservation species.
