According to the Vietnam News Agency, in addition to Lang Son Geopark, 15 other geoparks around the world were honored at this ceremony. Ambassador Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to UNESCO, emphasized that UNESCO’s official recognition of Lang Son Geopark as a UNESCO Global Geopark is of great significance. This milestone opens up many new opportunities for sustainable tourism development in Lang Son, and allows the province to connect more deeply with the global geopark network, cooperating and exchanging experiences on the management, conservation, and promotion of the values of humanity’s natural heritage for sustainable development.
Mr. Antonio De Sousa Abreu, Director of the Ecological and Earth Sciences Division of UNESCO, stated that the global geopark program aims for sustainable development through a combination of natural resource conservation and support for the development of local communities. Lang Son Geopark’s entry into the global geopark community not only contributes to enhancing the region’s identity but also opens up new development opportunities.
Lang Son Geopark is the fourth geopark in Vietnam to be recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark, following Dong Van Karst Plateau in 2010, Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark in 2018, and Dak Nong Geopark in 2020.
