According to the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, on August 20th in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Quoc Tri welcomed the King and Queen of Bhutan. The meeting, attended by WWF-Vietnam, focused on issues of nature conservation, sustainable development, and the protection of cultural and spiritual values. Both sides highly appreciated the global initiative on financing tiger conservation held in Paro, Bhutan in April 2024, considering it clear evidence of the need for international cooperation in protecting wildlife and ecosystems.
The King of Bhutan shared that, as a small country, Bhutan has chosen a path of balanced development, measured not by GDP but by the happiness index. He emphasized that the preservation of nature and Buddhist culture is the core foundation. Listening to this, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri expressed admiration for Bhutan – a happy nation where nature and people are placed at the center. He affirmed that Vietnam considers forest protection and restoration a key element in responding to climate change, and expressed his hope that the King and Queen would have the opportunity to visit Vietnam’s national parks and primeval forests to directly experience the beauty and value of nature.
The visit of the King and Queen of Bhutan not only strengthens the friendly relations between Vietnam and Bhutan but also affirms a shared commitment to green, balanced, and sustainable development, contributing to preserving the planet for future generations.
