120 km south of Hanoi, deep in the Tam Diep mountain range, there is a land that has become extremely familiar and dear, arousing curiosity for many domestic and foreign tourists, that is Cuc Phuong National Park – the first National Park of Vietnam.

Established on July 7, 1962 under Decision No. 72-TTg of the Prime Minister, Cuc Phuong National Park is located in three provinces of Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa with a total area of ​​22,408 hectares. With many values ​​of natural landscape, diversity of ecosystem, cultural and historical values, Cuc Phuong has long become a famous and attractive eco-tourism destination.

Biodiversity

With the characteristics of tropical rainforest, green all year round, Cuc Phuong has an extremely rich and diverse flora and fauna. According to recent survey data, Cuc Phuong has 2,234 species of higher plants and mosses, including 433 medicinal plants, 229 edible plants, many species listed in the Vietnam Red Book.

Regarding animals, Cuc Phuong has 122 species of reptiles and amphibians, 66 species of fish, nearly 2000 species of insects, 135 species of mammals (including the white-rumped langur, a very beautiful and rare primate chosen as the symbol of Cuc Phuong National Park). With 336 species of resident birds, especially many endemic to Vietnam and Indochina, Cuc Phuong has long been an ideal destination for birdwatchers.

Karst landscape and archaeological value

Belonging to the semi-covered Karst terrain, Cuc Phuong has many beautiful caves with evocative names such as: Son Cung cave, Pho Ma Giang cave… In particular, there are some caves that still preserve traces of prehistoric people, who lived from 7,500 to 12,000 years ago, such as Dang cave (ancient people’s cave), Moong cave. In 2000, Cuc Phuong discovered a fossil of a vertebrate species, according to the initial conclusion of the Vietnam Institute of Paleontology, this is a fossil of a placoderm reptile, who lived about 200 to 230 million years ago.

Cultural identity

Since ancient times, Cuc Phuong has been the residence and living place of the Muong community with unique and characteristic cultural features, such as stilt houses, terraced fields, rice pounding mortars, brocade weaving frames, and more uniquely, the festivals, customs and lifestyle of the community that visitors can feel during their visit to the village.
