Lo Go Xa Mat National Park was established under Decision No. 91/2002/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the basis of upgrading Lo Go – Xa Mat Nature Reserve.

By 2020, the national park will be expanded by merging the Chang Riec Cultural – Historical Forest.

Lo Go Xa Mat National Park is located at an altitude of 5-10m above sea level. This National Park has a fairly flat terrain, with a total natural area of ​​19,156 hectares, of which the strictly protected area is 8,179 hectares, the ecological restoration area is 10,852 hectares, and the rest is the administrative service area.

Located in four communes: Tan Lap, Tan Binh, Hoa Hiep and part of Thanh Tay commune in Tan Bien district of Tay Ninh province, the National Park has an extremely diverse and rich flora and fauna. The flora includes lowland deciduous forests, semi-deciduous forests and Melaleuca forests. Near the border area adjacent to Cambodia, there are mainly marshy grasslands with sedge carpets. There are up to 696 species of plants, of which 158 are medicinal plants, 58 are timber plants, 21 are ornamental plants, 10 are food plants and 7 are vegetables.

In particular, there are 203 bird species here, including many rare water birds such as Giang sen, Gia day Java, Co nhan, Le khoa co… This is also a stopover for Red-headed Cranes on their migration from the Mekong River to their breeding ground in Cambodia. Therefore, this plays an important role in bird conservation in Vietnam.

Lo Go Xa Mat National Park in Tay Ninh is also the area with the largest forest cover in the province, with a transitional ecosystem between the Central Highlands, the Southeast and the Mekong Delta, becoming a place to preserve many rare species of flora and fauna listed in the Vietnam and World Red Books.
