Mau Son natural forest, located in the administrative area of ​​3 communes Mau Son (Loc Binh district), Cong Son and Mau Son (Cao Loc district), Lang Son province, is about 30 km northeast of Lang Son city, bordering the Vietnam – China border. Mau Son is a high mountainous area of ​​Lang Son province, with diverse terrain, an average altitude of 800 – 1,000 m, including a complex of about 80 large and small mountains, with the highest peak being Phia Po (1,541 m, also known as Cong Son peak), Pia Me peak is 1,520 m high.
Mau Son forest is characterized by a low mountain subtropical evergreen broadleaf closed-season rainforest ecosystem, which is home to many endangered and rare animal and plant gene sources that are at risk of extinction at the national level, and is also extremely important for watershed protection, environmental protection and climate regulation for the region, protecting gene sources and biodiversity of the flora and fauna of the tropical forests of Northeastern Vietnam. In addition, Mau Son forest is also a famous scenic spot, a National Historical Site, part of the chain of scenic and tourist sites of Lang Son province.
