The vegetation in Ru Linh is a closed forest, evergreen all year round with a rich quantity and variety originating mainly from the ancient subtropical flora. Currently, Ru Linh has over 200 species belonging to 72 families, most of which belong to families such as Euphorbiaceae (23 species); Rubiaceae (10 species); Lauraceae (8 species). Among them are many rare perennial woody species such as green lim (Erythrophloeum fordii), mahogany (Sindora tonkinensis), huyenh (Tarrietia cochinchinesis), forest thi (Diospiros sp.), forest chestnut (Lithocarpus silvicolarum); Many medicinal plants such as agarwood (Aquilaria crassna), Schefflera octophylla… Animals in Ru Linh are not numerous in quantity and species composition, because the forest is located near a densely populated area, but there are still 73 species, including 60 bird species such as: storks, cuckoos, owls, bulbuls, starlings, shrikes… and 13 mammal species such as porcupines, pangolins, lorises, civets, red-bellied squirrels…

Before 1945, Ru Linh was a deep forest area, home to wild animals, including tigers and leopards. Ru Linh also provided water for agricultural production in the communes of Vinh Hoa, Vinh Hien, Vinh Thanh, Vinh Tan, Vinh Giang. Ru Linh is considered the green lung of the eastern Vinh Linh area.

Vegetation: Is a practical and essential component in tourism routes. In addition to its landscape value, it also has other values such as creating shade, improving the climate to ensure the health of humans and animals, providing food and exotic dishes for tourists. The characteristics of Ru Linh vegetation that are valuable for ecotourism are the tropical moist evergreen broadleaf closed forest.

Ru Linh has high value for ecotourism: The Gụ and Huynh forests are characterized by hot and humid climates, according to latitude, not distributed beyond the Deo Ngang area, according to altitude not exceeding 300m. It is a typical forest for tropical dense forests with species composition typical of the sub-regional type of the Tertiary ancient subtropical flora of North Vietnam – South China. This sub-type is typical of tropical areas with relatively long and cold winters. Perhaps in the coastal area, Ru Linh is the last limit of this sub-regional type to the North. Gụ and Huynh trees can also be found in humid forests in the South Central Coast, the Southern Central Highlands and some countries in Southeast Asia (not below 100VB) but rarely in pure clumps like in Ru Linh. The Gụ – Huynh forest in Ru Linh can be considered a unique type of forest on basalt in the lowlands of Vietnam. Here there are some main trees such as Go mat, Go se, Go den, Gu, aged from 150 – 200 years; Do, Tram, also known as Ky Nam, in some places also called Ky Nam Huong, Tra huong, Gio bau, up to 20m high, expensive and rare medicinal herbs in oriental medicine, essential oil in agarwood is used to make high-class aromatic fixatives; Huynh, planted since 1961; De dong che, Ngát, Tram se, Lim Set, Con tang…

Connected with other tourist attractions such as Cua Tung, Hien Luong – Ben Hai, Vinh Moc Tunnels, Truong Son Cemetery, Gio An Ancient Well System… Ru Linh adds to the beauty of the lowland tropical rainforest landscape. Tourists coming here will be able to witness the structure, large trees, climbing plants, beautiful images, the road along Mai Ra stone stream with clear water, a waterfall in the plain with beautiful ornamental trees such as red Sung, Rang Tien Toa… In addition, the good conservation of wild animals will be an ideal tourist route to approach nature in a plain area in the Northeast of Quang Tri province./.
