Thanh Phu Nature Reserve is geographically located in the communes of An Dien, Thanh Phong and Thanh Hai, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province; area: 2,584ha; geographical coordinates: northernmost point (Cu canal flowing into Ham Luong river: 9o57’40” North latitude, 106o32’58” East longitude, southernmost point (Eo Lon canal flowing into Co Chien river): 9o50’05” North latitude, 106o23’56” East longitude) Decision No. 57/2005/QD-TTg dated March 23, 2005 on adjusting the boundary of Thanh Phu Nature Reserve, Ben Tre province).

Thanh Phu Wetland Nature Reserve is an area located in the Mekong Delta. The mangrove ecosystem in this area has become a wetland with a very important role, in addition to providing wood and firewood, especially with the function of preventing erosion and balancing the estuary ecosystem, it also has the effect of protecting biodiversity, creating favorable conditions for production activities of coastal people, providing sources of seeds, flora and fauna and being a habitat for marine life.

The fauna and flora in the reserve has 119 species belonging to 45 plant families. The current forest area in the reserve is 2,043 ha, divided into 4 sub-zones. The tidal beaches and canals of the reserve at low tide are ideal feeding grounds for many bird species. The dense community of Avicennia in the marsh area is a suitable habitat for many species of reptiles, amphibians and many small animals, with statistics showing: 27 species of reptiles, 08 species of amphibians, 16 species of mammals and 60 species of birds.

The coastal mangrove ecosystem of Cu Lao Minh has about 152 bird species, the diversity coefficient compared to the bird fauna of the province is 0.87 and 0.78 compared to the Mekong Delta. The mammal group has about 12 different mammal species with the diversity coefficient compared to the province is 0.4 and compared to the Mekong Delta is 0.3. The reptile group has about 13 different species with the diversity coefficient compared to the province is 0.3. The amphibian group has about 10 species with the diversity coefficient compared to the province is 0.8.

The fish fauna in the reserve includes 49 species of fish belonging to 32 families and 12 different orders. Of which, the Perch order has the largest number of species with 26 species; the Catfish order has 7 species; the Herring order has 4 species; the remaining orders have a small number of species, from 1 to 2 species.
