Ca Mau Cape Biosphere Reserve was recognized on May 26, 2009 with a total area of 371,506 hectares with 3 areas: Core area 17,329 hectares, buffer area 43,309 hectares and transition area 310,868 hectares. The core area is divided into 3 small areas, which are strictly protected areas of Mui Ca Mau National Park, U Minh Ha National Park and the West Sea coastal protection range. This place has many typical ecosystems such as: Mangrove ecosystem, Melaleuca forest ecosystem on peat wetlands, marine ecosystem… each ecosystem preserves biological resources. , rich geological resources with high conservation value.
Ca Mau Cape Biosphere Reserve is a primary successional mangrove forest on alluvial land, creating spawning grounds and nurturing a large source of aquatic and marine species in the Gulf of Thailand. This is a model of sustainable local development through biodiversity conservation, economic development and closeness to cultural values expressed in 3 core areas: Ca Mau Cape National Park, Ca Mau National Park, and Ca Mau National Park. U Minh Ha district and the Western Ca Mau coastal protection forest range.
The buffer zones and transition zones surrounding the core zones create a large, diverse corridor of landscapes and ecosystems, including mangrove ecosystems, beaches, peat swamps, and ecosystems. marine ecology…
Internal values stand out
– Economic value: Through production and business activities, forest resources and products under the forest canopy, aquaculture activities, economic activities, tourism services and environmental benefits. clean school. Mangrove forests reduce wave energy, protect the coast, reduce the harmful effects of natural disasters caused by storms and floods, create a balance between conservation – biodiversity, natural resources, reduce water pollution, and reduce environmental pollution. air, soil environment, improving water quality, Melaleuca forest area has a very large peat reserve, capable of absorbing carbon to regulate climate, minimizing environmental pollution. The Biosphere Reserve is also a place for scientific research to serve national interests.
– Conservation value: The listed flora has 239 species belonging to 76 families, the fauna has 36 species belonging to 17 families, there are 7 species recorded in the Vietnam Red Book, 4 species banned from export are recorded in the Cites appendix. There are 4 species, birds include 208 species belonging to 51 families (of which migratory birds have 56 species belonging to 17 families).
According to statistics, in Ca Mau province there are 19 bird sanctuaries, this is an important component of Ca Mau mangrove forest habitat, Ca Mau’s environmental conditions with a very diverse and rich ecosystem, need to be managed and protected.
– Environmental protection value: Mangrove forests along the coast and river banks have an important role in protecting against rising sea levels, landslides, and preventing saltwater intrusion. In particular, flooded forests play a very important role in responding to climate change, protecting human interests and life in a sustainable way.
Currently, preserving rich biological and geological resources with high conservation value has been of concern to international nature conservation organizations.
