An Toan Nature Reserve has a natural area of ​​about 22,450 hectares, located entirely in An Toan commune (An Lao district). According to the results of initial investigation and research, this is an area with a very high natural forest cover, over 88%.

Of which, the area of ​​primary forest that still retains natural standard samples is quite large, more than 52%. The flora and fauna have high biodiversity.

Regarding plants, initially 547 higher vascular species belonging to 304 genera and 110 families were recorded; regarding animals, there were 300 species belonging to 89 families and 28 orders of 4 classes: mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.

Notably, there are 10 species of plants and 72 species of animals listed as rare and endangered in the Vietnam Red Book; and there are 04 species of plants and 14 species of animals that are endemic to this place.

Some endemic, rare and endangered animal species include grey-shanked douc langur, black-shanked douc langur, red-cheeked gibbon, red-faced monkey, deer, striped pheasant, large-antlered muntjac, crested pheasant; and plant species such as trac mat, agarwood, du mooc, star fruit flower…
