Located in the system of special-use forests of Vietnam, Binh Chau – Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve was recognized under Decision No. 194/CT dated August 9, 1986 of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now the Prime Minister).

Binh Chau – Phuoc Buu primeval forest is located in the South of Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, with a natural area of ​​over 10,537 hectares, stretching over 5 communes: Binh Chau, Bung Rieng, Bong Trang, Xuyen Moc, Phuoc Buu. This is the only remaining relatively intact coastal primeval forest in Vietnam. With the advantage of Dipterocarp forest being a habitat for species, especially rare species that are at risk of extinction; The reserve also has the function of protecting the coastal environment, protecting natural landscapes, serving research, scientific experiments, conservation education, entertainment and organizing ecotourism activities…

Binh Chau – Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve is classified as a “Tropical moist semi-deciduous closed forest”. The flora is diverse, including 750 species belonging to 123 families, of which 732 have been identified, with many rare species such as: Ba Ria rosewood, Red Gõ, Gõ mật, Giáng hương, Bình linh nghe, Dầu cát…, especially Dầu cát ( Dipterocarpus costatus ) is considered an endemic species of the Reserve.

According to the survey results, investigation of forest animal resources has identified 205 vertebrate species belonging to the classes of frogs, reptiles, birds and mammals (accounting for ~91% of animal species in the whole province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau), some rare species listed in the World and Vietnam Red Book such as: Long-tailed monkey, Pig-tailed monkey, Purple-sided pheasant, Little slow loris, Golden mountain turtle…

Located in the reserve, there are about 43 km of rivers – lakes – streams that usually have water all year round, the water surface area changes with the seasons, in the Northeast, there is especially Binh Chau hot mineral spring with temperature from 60-800C, this place has been officially recognized by the World Tourism Organization as one of 65 sustainable eco-tourism areas of 47 countries in the world.

Running along the south of Binh Chau – Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, there is 17 km of coastline, gentle water level, clean, smooth, flat sand forming natural beaches. Currently, this place has attracted many domestic and foreign companies and enterprises to invest and develop with many types of eco-tourism./.
