Hon Ba Nature Reserve is located in 4 localities: Cam Lam, Dien Khanh, Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh. The reserve has a total natural area of nearly 19,300 hectares of special-use forest, divided into 3 functional sub-zones: Strict protection sub-zone of nearly 9,520 hectares; ecological restoration sub-zone of more than 9,550 hectares and administrative service sub-zone of about 213 hectares.
Hon Ba Nature Reserve (KBTTN) is known as the natural “museum” of Khanh Hoa with a high level of biodiversity, a very rich flora and fauna. The reserve is identified to have a very high level of biodiversity. The fauna has 28 orders, 88 families and 274 species; of which 70 species of mammals, 144 species of birds, 37 species of reptiles, 17 species of amphibians have been recorded; there are 56 rare animal species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book. The initial recorded flora has 120 families, 468 genera, 752 species, of which 43 species are listed in the Vietnam Red Book. Every year, through research at Hon Ba KBTTN, domestic and foreign scientists announce many new species. In 2020, forest protection and management in the reserve were well implemented, but the risk of forest encroachment still exists, because the biodiversity of the reserve is very high.
