Located about 20km southwest of Ha Tinh city center, in the administrative area of ​​three districts: Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh, Huong Khe and bordering Quang Binh province to the south, Ke Go Nature Reserve has the full name of “Ke Go Lake Forest National Nature Reserve”, established by Decision No. 970/TTg dated December 28, 1996 of the Government, with geographical coordinates 105º50′ – 106º07′ East longitude and 18º00′ – 18º09′ North latitude with a total natural area of ​​24,801ha.

Ke Go Lake was started to be built in 1976 to prevent flooding in Ha Tinh. This is a large irrigation project with a capacity of 350 million m3 of water, irrigating nearly 17,000 hectares of rice, crops, and land in Thach Ha and Cam Xuyen districts, Ha Tinh city, and the north of Ky Anh district.

Ke Go Lake Nature Reserve has a very rich flora and fauna with nearly 400 species of vertebrates belonging to 99 families, 47 species of mammals, 298 species of birds, 100 species of amphibians and reptiles, of which 18 species of mammals are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world. Here, populations of 5 endemic bird species with narrow distribution areas have been found, namely the black-crested blue pheasant, Ha Tinh pheasant, crested pheasant…, of which the black-crested blue pheasant and Ha Tinh pheasant are 2 species that are threatened with extinction globally.

Regarding flora, there are 567 species of vascular plants belonging to 367 genera and 117 families. Common in the shrub layer are trees in the family Palmaceae with main species such as conical leaves, song, rattan, wild areca, lui; in the lower carpet layer there are quyet, bonh bo and species of trees in the family Acanthus… In particular, Ke Go lake forest area also owns more than 40 species of woody plants, many of which are listed in the Vietnam Red Book such as: green lim, len mat, gu, vang tam, doi… Ke Go forest is also the place to develop beautiful and precious magnolia and orchid species such as cinnamon, elephant ear, buffalo ear, foxtail, royal poinciana, spring greeting…

Currently, the Ha Tinh tourism industry is focusing on promoting investment projects in infrastructure and service systems to build this place into a comprehensive eco-tourism area with many attractive forms of entertainment…
