The nature reserve has a total natural area of 19,254 ha, and a special-use forest area of 15,105.79 ha. Of which, the strictly protected area is 7,211.8 ha, the ecological restoration area is 7,823.37 ha, and the administrative and service area is 70.62 ha, spread across 7 highland communes in Tan Lac and Lac Son districts.
Ngoc Son – Ngo Luong Nature Reserve (BTTN) is a corridor connecting Cuc Phuong National Park and Pu Luong Nature Reserve of Thanh Hoa province. This is a typical limestone mountain forest ecosystem that preserves the gene source of many rare and endemic species of animals and plants, playing an important role in protecting the headwaters, maintaining and providing irrigation water, regulating the climate, protecting the environment, and maintaining forest cover of over 86%.
