Ong Mountain Nature Reserve was established under Decision No. 14/TTg dated October 19, 1992 of the Prime Minister and Decision No. 50/2001/QD-TTg dated April 10, 2001 of the Prime Minister, on adjusting the boundary and changing the name to Ong Mountain Nature Reserve.

Nui Ong Nature Reserve covers an area of ​​24,355 hectares in the administrative area of ​​02 districts Tanh Linh and Ham Thuan Nam, Binh Thuan province, belonging to the South Central biogeographic region. Nui Ong Nature Reserve has many peaks of 1000 m high, especially the peak of Nui Ong with an altitude of 1,302 m. This area is the intersection of geography and ecosystem between the South Central region and the Southeast region.

Ong Mountain Nature Reserve has a large vegetation, the forest cover rate of the reserve is up to 93%; therefore, this place has a very large biodiversity, is home to over 1,000 species of flora and fauna. Ong Mountain Nature Reserve has up to 763 species of higher plants; of which, 55 species are threatened at the national and/or international level. Among them is  Erythorophleum fordii oliv . Lim is a large tree species of the vang family (  Caesalpininoideae ) newly discovered with a natural distribution in Ong Mountain area that is not found in the southern provinces. Some rare plant species such as: Dalbergia bariensis Pierre , Afzelia xylocarpa , Pterocarpus Kosf , Podocarpus wallichianus Presl , Dalbergia cochinchinensis Pirerre , Erythorophleum fordii oliv. Lin .

An important highlight is that the flora of Ong Mountain Nature Reserve has elements of Indochina and Malaysia belonging to the Indo-Malay flora region, also containing some elements of Africa and Australia. In addition, the flora of Ong Mountain Nature Reserve also has some species in ancient plant families belonging to two ancient flora regions: subtropical and tropical.

The fauna has 46 species of mammals, 98 species of birds, 22 species of reptiles and 18 species of amphibians (including endemic tree frogs). In particular, there are 19 species ranked at CR level in the Vietnam Red Book such as: tiger, sun bear, leopard, Java pangolin, king cobra, purple-sided pheasant… and some species are prioritized for conservation, of special interest to the world, such as black-shanked douc langur, yellow-cheeked gibbon, small slow loris… From the above factors, it can be seen that Ong Mountain Nature Reserve has diverse and rich flora and fauna, is an extremely valuable treasure of national resources, not only has great value in environmental protection but also has high value in scientific research and biodiversity.

Nui Ong Nature Reserve is not only a place with diverse and rich flora and fauna, but Nui Ong Nature Reserve also has a special geographical location in the middle of the Da Lat – Phan Thiet – Bien Hoa tourist triangle with beautiful green landscapes and natural environment. In particular, Nui Ong is located in the upstream area of ​​the Dong Nai river system, the Ham Thuan – Da Mi hydroelectric basin, with the La Nga river flowing in the Northeast – Southwest direction, winding through the reserve for 15 km, with the majestic and mysterious Mai Waterfall. There is Thac Ba on the Cat river originating from the top of Nui Ong, 5km from the center of Lac Tanh town, Tanh Linh district, with a height of 75m including waterfall 1, waterfall 2 and 3 with a source of clear, clean, cool water, flowing all year round, around the waterfall there are flat rocks, many ancient trees with wide canopies, very convenient for tourists to camp, stay overnight to enjoy the atmosphere of the mountains and forests. This is a favorable condition for developing eco-tourism.

With such unique natural and cultural potential, the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan Province has issued a decision approving the project to plan and develop Thac Ba eco-tourism, sightseeing and resort, with a series of diverse and unique tourism products such as: eco-tourism, waterfall sightseeing, natural forest ecosystem, entertainment and bathing at Thac Ba, mountain climbing, games on the waterfall, mountain biking, adventure tourism, exploration, fishing; entertainment under the forest canopy; picnics to study the primeval forest ecosystem; learning about national cultural identity; tourism to the source…
