Dong Nai Natural and Cultural Reserve was established under Decision No. 4679/2003/QD-UBT dated December 2, 2003. On August 27, 2010, the Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee issued Decision No. 2208/QD-UBND to change the name of Vinh Cuu Nature and Monument Reserve to Dong Nai Nature and Cultural Reserve. The total existing area of ​​the reserve is 100,535 hectares, including: 68,015 hectares of forestry land and 32,520 hectares of water surface (Tri An Lake), located in the communes of Phu Ly, Ma Da, Hieu Liem, Vinh An town under the administrative boundary of Vinh Cuu district and Dac Lua commune, Tan Phu district, Thanh Binh commune, Trang Bom district, Gia Tan commune, Thong Nhat district, Thanh Son, La Nga, Phu Cuong, Phu Ngoc, Ngoc Dinh, Tuc Trung communes, Dinh Quan district. Geographic coordinates: 11 o 04’19” – 11 o 30’54”N; 106 o 54’05” – 107 o 18’27”E.

According to the data of the Management Board of Dong Nai Natural and Cultural Reserve, up to now, there have been 1,552 species of higher plants, 166 families, 95 orders, 10 classes, belonging to 06 branches. With 71 rare species, of which 43 species are listed in the IUCN Red Book (2015), 36 species in the Vietnam Red Book (2007) and 11 endangered and rare species according to Decree 32/2006/ND-CP.

The survey results of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources in 2012 recorded 1,817 species of wildlife. Of which: The Mammal Group has recorded 25 species listed in the IUCN Red List (2015); 27 species listed in the Vietnam Red Book (2007); 27 species listed in Decree 32/2006/ND-CP. The Bird Group has recorded 21 rare or economically valuable bird species in the Reserve.

The amphibian-reptile group has recorded 27 rare species. Of which, 13 species are in the IUCN Red List; 19 species are in the Vietnam Red Book 2007; 15 species are recorded in Decree 32/2006/ND-CP.
