Bach Ma National Park was approved by the Government to be established in 1991, with an area of 22,031ha and a buffer zone of 21,300ha. The entire park and buffer zone are located in the administrative territory of 9 communes and 2 towns of Phu Loc district, Nam Dong district of Thua Thien Hue province and Hoa Vang district of Da Nang city. To the north and northeast of the park are Cau Hai lagoon and An Cu lagoon; to the south and southwest of the park, the park extends to the tail of the Northern Truong Son range, about 1,000-1,300m high (where Mang mountain is up to 1,702m high). Bach Ma National Park occupies part of the sub-latitude granitoid mountain range and is located in the south of the province. Most of the mountain peaks are from 1,000-1,444m high. The slopes are steep from 20 to 350, in some places up to 40-450 and are strongly divided by rivers and streams. The vegetation here is quite developed, belonging to the subtropical (subtropical) evergreen closed-season rainforest type at altitudes above 1,000m and the tropical evergreen closed-season rainforest type at altitudes below 1,000m. However, due to destructive chemical toxins, logging, and indiscriminate slash-and-burn cultivation of forest land for a long time, the area of primary forest is now small and the area of regenerated and restored forests accounts for a significant proportion. Thanks to its favorable geographical location, high mountainous terrain, and thick forest vegetation cover, the temperature and humidity of Bach Ma National Park is relatively stable: the average annual temperature is 16-220C, the coldest month is 5-80C, the hottest month does not exceed 250C, the average annual rainfall is the largest in Vietnam, commonly 3,400-4,000mm/year, sometimes larger, even up to 9,000mm/year.

According to the synthesis and investigation results, in the ecosystem of Bach Ma National Park, it has been determined that: the insect class has 894 species, 580 genera, 125 families, 17 orders; the fish class has 57 species, 48 genera, 17 families, 6 orders; the amphibian class has 21 species, 7 genera, 5 families, 1 order; the reptile class has 31 species, 24 genera, 10 families, 2 orders; the bird class has 358 species, 186 genera, 55 families, 15 orders; the mammal class has 132 species, 72 genera, 28 families, 10 orders.
