With a total area of 15,783 hectares, of which the forest and forest land area is 6,125 hectares with more than 40 large and small islands and 9,650 hectares of sea surface, lagoons, and flooded tidal flats. In which, the Ba Mun island ecological area, Minh Chau commune is the core area of the national park. The flora and fauna living in the forest garden and sea area in Bai Tu Long National Park are very rich, rare, and have high value in terms of gene conservation.
According to the survey, the National Park has over 178 species of aquatic plants, 119 species of fish, 132 species of invertebrates, 106 species of corals living and growing in the sea, tidal flats, and lagoons, and dozens of endemic birds of prey such as: Burmese hawk, Japanese hawk, black hawk, red-whiskered bulbul, large cuckoo, Hainan flycatcher…
The geological structure of Bai Tu Long National Park includes land islands interspersed with rocky islands such as: Ba Mun, Tra Ngo Lon, Tra Ngo Nho, Sau Nam, Sau Dong, Dong Ma, Hon Chinh, Lo Ho, Mang Ha Nam, Mang Ha Bac, Di To, Chay Chay, Da Ay, Soi Nhu, with limestone mountain ranges surrounding large valleys forming valleys that create a rich habitat for many different species of flora and fauna.
Not only that, the giant caves inside the limestone mountains, typically Cai De cave, the largest cave in the Ha Long – Bai Tu Long area, penetrating the mountain with a length of 300m, not only let us feel the irresistible power of the water god, but also bring an unforgettable mysterious feeling to those who have enough courage and health to explore and discover this great natural work.
Another charming appearance, connecting the mountains and rivers, is the golden and white sand beaches at the foot of the island. There are small sandy beaches that seem to be shy and hidden at the foot of the rocky island, and there are also white sand beaches that stretch for kilometers with a splendid and inviting beauty.
Along with the beautiful landscape, Bai Tu Long National Park with its rich terrain, geomorphology and geology is also one of the national parks with high biodiversity value. Although the total area of the national park is not large, only over 15,000 hectares, it has 3 basic ecosystems: terrestrial forests, wetlands and sea, with a large enough area for the flora and fauna of the forest and sea to grow and develop.

The ecosystem of sandy and rocky tidal flats has a rustic and rough appearance but also contains many interesting things. It is home to a large number of marine species, the most prominent of which is the mollusk industry, creating for Van Don many unique products that attract tourists.

The highlight is the Bat Cave Valley located in Cai Lim area, Tra Ngo Lon island, this is a mangrove forest of about 10 hectares, the terrain of the Bat Cave Valley is not in direct contact with sea water. Sea water flows through underground caves or crevices in rocks, combined with fresh water flowing down the mountain slopes, creating a diversity of flora and fauna. There are many species living here such as frogs, toads, snakes, interspersed with saltwater species such as shrimp, clams, horseshoe crabs, etc.
Located at the end of this mangrove forest is Bat Cave, which is home to thousands of bats. Currently, Bat Cave is also home to many animals such as otters, civets, and foxes. In particular, there are quite a lot of monkeys, including the white-breasted, yellow-haired monkey that lives naturally here.
This is also a conservation area for natural landscapes, historical and cultural preservation with archaeological sites such as Soi Nhu cave where the existence of ancient Vietnamese people about 14 thousand years ago was discovered with traces of a bustling Van Don trading port in the past.
Located in the Bai Tu Long National Park complex is Minh Chau commune, which owns a natural beach of fine white sand about 2 km long, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Gulf of Tonkin. Above the beach is a primeval cajuput forest stretching over an area of 14 hectares, very suitable for developing eco-tourism.
Bai Tu Long National Park is truly an attractive eco-tourism destination for domestic and foreign tourists.
