Chu Mom Ray National Park was formed on the basis of Chu Mom Ray Nature Reserve with an area of over 56,000 hectares, with high biodiversity and many valuable genetic resources, recognized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as an ASEAN Heritage in 2004.
According to statistics on flora, Chu Mom Ray has over 1,000 species, of which 131 species are identified as endangered such as: orchids, gymnosperms, species of the dipterocarp family, cycads… Besides, there are about 2,000 other rare plant species such as: kim giao, pine bamboo, trac, cam lai…
In addition to the rich flora, the fauna in Chu Mom Ray is also very diverse, with about 620 species, including 11 species of mammals, 370 species of birds, 45 species of reptiles, 20 species of freshwater fish, 17 species of amphibians and 57 species of insects, of which about 114 species are listed in the Vietnam and world Red Book.
In particular, the grassland – Ja Book valley, with an area of over 9,000 hectares in Chu Mom Ray, is a place that attracts many rare ungulates and carnivores such as: wild buffalo, Indochinese tiger, gaur, elephant, bear, leopard, Truong Son mang… and many other reptiles and amphibians to live. In addition, on high mountain peaks such as Ngoc Vil peak, Chu Do peak, Ngoc Tu Ba peak, Chu Mom Ray peak is home to many primate species and tree-dwelling animals such as gibbons, langurs and rare birds such as hornbills, ground eagles, peacocks…
When visiting Chu Mom Ray, you will join journeys back to nature such as conquering mountains, walking in the forest to explore typical landmarks, observing and learning about the rich flora and fauna considered to be the best in Vietnam. Or visit historical sites such as: Truong Son road, H67 site and Sac Ly hill – once the base of the Central Highlands army, Phuong Hoang airport, Bo Y international border gate, Yaly hydroelectric power plant…
And you can also visit ethnic minority villages, get acquainted with the Hlang, Gia Rai, Ko Dong, Ro Mam or Bo Rau ethnic groups – one of the ethnic groups with the smallest population in the large family of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. Rest in a cool communal house or communal house, enjoy Central Highlands dishes such as bamboo rice, wine, salt pounded with herbs, specialties of the ethnic groups.
