Mui Ca Mau National Park (VQG) was established under Decision No. 142/2003/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam dated July 14, 2003 on the basis of upgrading Dat Mui Nature Reserve (established under Decision No. 194/CT, dated August 9, 1986).

Mui Ca Mau National Park is located in Dat Mui commune, Ngoc Hien district (Ca Mau) with an area of ​​over 41,800 hectares. This is a coastal mangrove area, although not diverse in species, it has its own characteristics in terms of fauna and flora. The park has 93 species of birds, 26 species of mammals, 43 species of reptiles, 9 species of amphibians, 233 species of aquatic products. Among them are many rare species such as grey-legged pelicans, Chinese white storks, geese, otters, black-backed box turtles, large spotted civets, toothed turtles, three-ridged turtles, big-necked turtles, Southern soft-shell turtles, etc.

Mui Ca Mau National Park is one of the three core areas of Mui Ca Mau Biosphere Reserve, Ca Mau province, recognized in 2009 (including: Mui Ca Mau National Park, U Minh Ha National Park and the West Coastal Protection Range).

Mui Ca Mau National Park was recognized as a Ramsar site in 2013.

The main function of Mui Ca Mau National Park is to protect the wetland ecosystem, limit erosion, promote coastal sedimentation, etc. In addition, the National Park is also a place to organize sightseeing activities, ecotourism, international cooperation; experiment with conservation models, sustainable use of forest resources, promote the value and economic function of the mangrove ecosystem, etc. Thereby improving the living conditions of people in the area, while contributing to raising community awareness of the values ​​of forests and methods of sustainable use of wetland resources.
